Located at a distance and planned from Delhi It involves taking a flight to Kathmandu in Nepal, 1,180 km from Delhi, and thereafter a combination of two flights with road travel (1,990 km total) or two flights and one helicopter sortie (785 km) or total road travel from Nepal (880 km). The distance excludes 49 km on foot in China. , the Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar constitute one of the grandest of the Himalayan beauty spots. Rather, it is known for its religious importance amongst the devotees of Lord Shiva (a Hindu God). In fact, a special Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (KMY) is organized by NTP Offices Government of India, every year from the month of May-September. Every batch of this pious yatra takes around 10 to 15 days to complete the yatra, depending upon the itinerary Kailash Yatra Overland Tour, Kailash Yatra by Helicopter tour from Lucknow, Kailash Helicopter tour via Kathmandu or Inner Kora out of which hardly 2-3 days are in Nepal Territory and remaining days inside the Chinese territory of Tibet.
Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is popular for its religious importance, arduous nature and cultural significance amongst the people with the spiritual faith and holistic inclination. The Yatra comprise of a long trek finding its way through high altitudes in freezing temperature involves courting danger and hard labour. Instead of arduous nature of the yatra, pilgrims/devotees of Lord Shiva has been marching through the cold desert since time immemorial. This pilgrimage has huge religious significance not only for Hindus but Jains and Buddhists as well. The Yatra involves trekking at high altitudes of up to 19,500 feet above the sea level, under inhospitable conditions, including severe cold and rough terrain. This may prove hazardous for those who are not physically and medically fit. In fact, the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) has recognized KMY as a significant trekking expedition and may involve a high risk to person or property. Religious & Spiritual Significance
For Hindus, Mt. Kailash regards as the mortal manifestation of Mt. Meru, a spiritual centre of the universe and as per Hindu mythology, the Svarga or heaven is situated here and whoever pays a visit to this place gets cleaned of his sins paved in this birth. Mansarovar Lake visit is also a part of the pilgrimage tour. Taking a ritual bath in the lake are assured of reaching Lord Brahma’s paradise and drinking its holy water cleans the sins of a hundred lifetimes. A pilgrimage to Mt Kailash includes circumambulating the holy mountain and the Mansarovar Lake.
Selection Process of Yatris
It is an arduous nature of the journey only physically fit people are advised to apply for the tour with no limitation of age till date (guidelines above 70 are manifested on this link). The applicant must not suffer from medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, epilepsy, heart disease, etc. The Yatris can apply with no specific selection process as the route is quite comfortable via Nepal as compared to Indian tough terrain (no specific test is prescribed till date) except the COVID guidelines which are awaited by the pilgrims. Bookings are applied for the permits and upon receiving the permit Visa is applied by NTP on behalf of the pilgrims. In order to ensure a comfortable tour yatris are advised to keep good eating habits and some exercise on daily basis in order to sustain on the high altitude.
Booking form and Declaration
Apart from all, some formalities are also to be done. The interested yatris are required to sign an indemnity booking form to the effect that they are going for this Yatra at their own risk. They will also be asked to sign the undertaking for evacuation by helicopter in case of emergency. Moreover, to the indemnity bond and the declaration, Yatris will also have to inform in advance in case of emergency whom to consent for any emergent requisite like a health issue, cremation of mortal remains on Chinese side if in case of death there. The pilgrims will also have to take care of the validity of the passport before planning their trip.
Indian, Nepali or Chinese authorities provide medical help, but you are advised to carry your own first aid kit with your essential medicines.

Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration while mountain climbing
Eat light food which would be rich in carbohydrates & if possible keep energy bar with you
If feeling tired, do not push yourself to climb further, and take breaks in between the journey
Don’t drink alcohol and avoid smoking during travel to avoid dehydration
Climbing slowly is the best way to avoid altitude sickness and avoid arduous activity
